Ever since the unexpected results of the Parliamentary elections in November last year, there has been a decided change in the atmosphere around Catalan independence. Even though it was obvious that some Madrid exultations that the sovereignty question was over in November were clearly premature, it is also undeniable that the euphoria felt in Catalonia during the previous two months was dealt a severe blow, and which to date has only just begun to recover.

On the predictability of results in general Spanish elections

The 11th general election after the restoration of democracy in Spain took place on the last November 20th. The Spanish conservative party Partido Popular (PP) clearly won the election with 186 seats in the Spanish parliament. This result implies an impressive increase of 32 seats from the last general election, and its best performance ever.

Power alternation experiences

In Autumn 2010, Catalonia experienced an alternation in Government after the regional election on the 28th of November. The results saw Catalan citizens make a decision to alter the power and install a new Cabinet. The transition was made, as agreed in all the statements, and was based on a model way in order to preserve the decision of the citizenship and the enhancement of the institutions.
