The IEC, the National Academy of Sciences and Humanities

Salvador Giner's picture

Most modern countries in the world have a national academy, gathering and representing their scientific and intellectual communities. Catalonia is no exception. Over a century old, the Institut d’Estudis Catalans is the national academy of sciences and humanities. In close collaboration with universities and with many scientific research centres, the Institut is a vibrant and forward-looking academy, committed to the advancement of science and knowledge, and representing the best Catalan society has to offer in these fields of endeavour.

The Catalan foreign policy

Josep-Lluís Carod-Rovira's picture

Catalonia has always understood that internationalisation is an inevitable responsibility as an engine for prosperity, welfare and opportunities for the country. The universities, research centres, businesses, cultural creators, and the media have always understood this. Media with a country-centred vision, such as the ACN, make the world aware of our reality.

Internationalisation and innovation, the main axes of Fira de Barcelona

Josep Lluís Bonet's picture

Through the years, one of Fira de Barcelona’s (Barcelona’s Trade Fair)best assets has been its capacity to adapt to the needs of companies and industries. Today, within the framework of a globalised economy, which is also facing a deep crisis, our institution is an unquestionable benchmark that goes side by side with industries, entrepreneurs and initiatives that generate growth, wealth and labour.

Positioning Catalonia in the world

Artur Mas's picture

Catalonia’s geographic location and the open character of Catalan people have always helped us to be a country in contact with the world. Catalonia has historically been a land of passage, both by the many people who have passed through it and by the many others who have decided to stay in it. The entrepreneurial and globetrotting character of Catalan people has made our presence abroad numerous and intense.

(Barcelona is) The place to be

Miquel Valls's picture

Among all the cities worth their salt, Barcelona has always been associated with fun, sun and culture. But, more than ever, our city is becoming today a major business attraction pole and, in many other aspects, it is one of Europe’s leading cities.

The year's village party

Santi Santamaria's picture

When we were little kids –and also not so little– we always craved the arrival of the year’s village party, which provided a break in the year’s routine. The amusement fair was coming and was settling down for an entire week long at the Bestiar Square, only 50 meters away from Can Fabes. I was shocked by some of the characters working at the fair. Some looked like convicts, some were hairy and others were half-broken, greasy, and tattooed everywhere. I had only seen people like this at the movies.

A new window to project Catalonia into the world

José Montilla's picture

Catalonia is opening a window to the world with the Catalan News Agency (CNA), a new communication media for the 21st century. Both innovative and brave, the project is Catalan but with an international dimension. It will explain who we are, what we produce, what we possess, how we innovate, investigate, and create. It will do so through the Internet, the most global media, and it will do so in English, the most universal language. We are, without a doubt, looking at good news for our country.
